GPConnect (also known as GPC) is the Clinic Management System (CMS) developed by the Synapxe team.

GPC was the forerunner in the first 2 Cycles of the CMS Sutra surveys and scored an impressive 4.1 stars and 3.7 stars out of 5 stars in Cycle 1 and 2 respectively. Since the first 2 Cycles, there appears to be a sentiment shift in which GPConnect was rated by our respondents as having 3.2 stars out of 5 stars for Cycle 3.

Our reviewers are of the view that this gradual decline in ratings could be due to the increasing complexity that users must navigate when performing tasks relating to HSG workflows (especially as more functionalities are incorporated into the CMS). As our field team has observed, compared to other CMSes, GPC users tend to have to perform more “clicks” in order to complete HSG-related tasks. This has made the system has much less user-friendly and increased the learning curve for beginners or users who are less tech-savvy. GP users tend to favor systems which are very intuitive and easy to use (as little “clicks” or steps as possible to achieve the desired outcomes), and this may have weighed down GPC’s ratings. The plus side of these extra “clicks” / steps is that GPC tends to have high data fidelity and accuracy (i.e. transactions relating to HSG or other government-related initiatives tend to be successful with very low error rates). However, GPC (at present) lacks integration with Third Party Administrators (TPAs) / Private Insurance systems.

CEG and Annual Service Fee (ASF) Report Card

Historically, GPC tends to outperform other CMSes when it comes to government-related initiatives. However, similar to other top 5 HSG-compatible CMSes, GPC had several users who reported lower than expected disbursement in the variable component of ASF during the first release of the Interim Payment Advice in January 2025. 23.3% of users rated one or two stars when surveyed on the completeness of the HSG Care Report generated by GPC in helping them claim for the ASF and incentives. To the credit of the GPC team, they were proactive in investigating the cause for the lower recognition and have undertaken expedient steps to address this. Our reviewers reported that the issues have since been resolved.

Like other HSG-compatible CMSes, it would be recommended that users actively reach out to their CMS vendor to have a better understanding of how to submit the key data tied to CEG and ASF with the aim of achieving a better outcome for next year’s CEG and ASF.

HSG-related Functionalities – Old and New

GPC has performed reasonably well in terms of HSG-related functionalities (including both pre-existing ones and the newer ones). The transition to the new version of the Health Plan was generally smooth without any major issues (except the inability to copy over free text information from older Health Plans which is a universal issue for all CMSes). The new Patient Care Summary (PCS) had functioned as it was intended to be, and the data presented was accurate. HSG tier versus CHAS tier price comparison, price caps on Whitelisted medications, remote drug orders and tracking of delivery status were generally fuss-free and worked well. 62.8% of users rated the comprehensiveness of GPC’s HSG Health Plan module as 4 or 5 stars. However, compared to other CMSes, the steps required to perform HSG-related tasks tended to be more complicated and less user-friendly.

Perennial Areas which Users are Interested In

Stability remains a source of concern with many GPC users continuing to report episodes of slowing and lagging (especially towards the end of a clinic shift). 16.3% of users rated GPC’s stability as 1 or 2 stars during this period. Sporadic downtime was also reported by users. To the credit of the GPC team, GPC provides a downtime module for users to use in the event of downtime. With this downtime module, clinics can continue operations without any major disruptions. While the provision of this downtime module is very helpful, the stability of the system remains an issue and a key aspect that we hope the GPC team can continue to work on.

Laboratory integration was acceptable with no major issues in terms of data flows. Users particularly liked the fact that GPC has a direct contact switch with NEHR. Customer support was generally strong, and the GPC team was responsive to downtimes and bugs / issues reported by users. Our reviewers also expressed that GPC is one of the rare CMSes who are very willing to send their staff down to the clinic for on-site support (where else other CMSes tend to favor remote support). 60.4% of users also rated GPC's ability to satisfactorily resolve technical issues as 4 or 5 stars.

Summary

In summary, GPConnect is a great choice for clinics whose core businesses are heavily involved in government-related initiatives and do not require integration to Third Party Administrators (TPAs) / Private Insurance systems. GPC continues to have some stability issues, and the current workflow can be perceived by some users (especially non-tech savvy users) as unnecessarily complicated. Nevertheless, the GPC customer support is very responsive and able to resolve issues expediently.
